Rose Byrne Praises A$AP Rocky’s “Supernatural Charm” in New Film, “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You”

Hollywood star Rose Byrne is generating buzz about her new film, “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” praising her co-star A$AP Rocky for his captivating presence. Byrne, 46, plays Linda, a woman who forms an unexpected friendship with Rocky’s character, a motel superintendent.

Byrne told Marie Claire Australia that Rocky’s charm is so potent that viewers will expect a romance between their characters. “Rocky has such supernatural charm you immediately and understandably think, ‘Oh, this is going to happen,’ but it never falls into that cliché.”

Byrne was immediately drawn to the script, written and directed by Mary Bronstein, describing it as “visually rich” and filled with “great humor.” She also highlighted the film’s unique sound design, comparing it to “a piece of music” that accentuates the psycho-drama unfolding on screen. The audience experiences the story solely through Linda’s perspective, blurring the lines between reality and illusion.

“If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” is not a straightforward drama. Byrne says, “There are a lot of horror tropes in there, but also such gallows humour. It defies a lot of genres.”

Byrne is also proud the film delves into the complexities and challenges of motherhood. She noted that “Mothers are revered, and also invisible at the same time. It’s a weird duality.” Byrne believes the film offers a relatable, albeit abstract, portrayal of motherhood.

The actress is excited about the growing trend of films exploring motherhood from a female perspective, citing films like “Nightbitch” and “All Fours” as examples. “We’re now seeing [motherhood] through the vision of female directors and writers, and I’m so excited for that, I’m front row for that. I devour it all.” Byrne feels fortunate to be part of this movement, acknowledging that previous generations of women didn’t have this kind of representation.
