Woman Found Murdered on Yercaud Ghat Road, Lover Arrested
Salem, India – December 29, 2025: A 24-year-old woman was discovered murdered on Yercaud Ghat Road on Monday evening, according to local police. The victim, identified as S. Sumathi, a resident of Maramangalam in Yercaud and a casual labourer, was found in a decomposed state inside a gunny bag at the bottom of a 200-foot-deep gorge.
The discovery was made after residents reported a foul smell emanating from the Kuppanur-Yercaud Ghat Road. After a four-hour struggle, police retrieved the bag and confirmed the remains to be Sumathi, who had been reported missing since December 23rd.
Police investigation revealed that Sumathi, who had been married for two years, had developed an affair with G. Venkatesh, 23, also from Maramangalam, through social media. On the day of her disappearance, an argument allegedly broke out between Sumathi and Venkatesh, which resulted in him strangling her to death and disposing of her body in the gorge.
G. Venkatesh has been arrested in connection with the murder, and police are conducting further investigations.
