Raichur, India – December 29, 2025 – An international conference on “Sustainable Innovations in Agriculture, Veterinary and Agro-related Matters” commenced Monday at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) in Raichur. Organized by the National Agricultural Development Cooperative Limited (NADCL) of Jammu and Kashmir, the three-day event aims to address key challenges and opportunities in the agricultural sector.

Dr. Srinivasa Rao, Director of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, inaugurated the conference, emphasizing the crucial role of agricultural universities in driving development in agriculture, livestock, and related fields. He urged UAS Raichur to evaluate its contributions and encouraged scientists to focus on solving farmer problems stemming from natural disasters and market fluctuations. Dr. Rao also highlighted the alarming annual loss of ₹1.3 lakh crore in wasted food, challenging universities to find solutions to reduce this waste.

UAS Raichur Vice-Chancellor M. Hanumanthappa showcased the university’s successes, including its biological production unit’s contribution to managing black thrips affecting chillies, and its seed production unit’s sale of 22,000 quintals of seeds to farmers. He also announced plans to establish a value-added park for cereals, benefiting small-scale grain growers. The university has secured 14 patents in agricultural technology and crop protection, with 12 students from the Agricultural Technology Department clearing the GATE exam.

The conference features participation from various experts, including Mallikarjuna D. from the University Management Board, M. Kishan Kumar from P. V. Narasimha Rao Agricultural University, G. A. K. Kumar from the Central Rice Research Institute, Dilip Kumar from Veterinary University, Bidar, and R. A. Shah from NADCL Baramulla. The organizers, including Jagruti B. Deshmanya and others, are facilitating discussions on innovative approaches to sustainable agriculture and related areas. The conference is expected to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing to address the evolving challenges in the agricultural sector.
