Chandigarh – December 29, 2025 – The Punjab Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, today approved a series of administrative and governance reforms aimed at improving public service delivery and enhancing citizen convenience.
Key decisions include the upgrade of Banur sub-tehsil to a full-fledged tehsil in Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS) Nagar district and the creation of a new sub-tehsil in Hariana, Hoshiarpur district. These moves are expected to ease access to administrative services and reduce travel burdens for citizens.
Significant amendments to the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1887, were also approved to reduce unnecessary litigation and streamline the appeals process. These changes will provide legal recognition to digital land records and digital signatures, strengthening paperless record-keeping and improving transparency in land administration. The government’s existing e-services portal, which simplifies land-related procedures such as online applications for ‘Khangi Taqseem’ and land demarcation, will further benefit from these advancements.
In a move lauded for its social impact, the Cabinet approved a one-time relaxation in the upper age limit for contractual Special Teacher Educators working under the Samagra Shiksha scheme. This will enable their regularisation within the School Education Department, ensuring continuity of inclusive education for children with special needs without incurring additional financial burden on the state.
These reforms represent a concerted effort by the Punjab government to modernize its administrative framework, improve transparency, and prioritize citizen well-being.
