Pulisic Shines as AC Milan Secures Second Place; Home World Cup Looms
Milan, Italy – December 23, 2023 – Christian Pulisic is on track for a career-best season, fueling excitement ahead of the upcoming World Cup hosted in the United States. The American winger scored the opening goal in AC Milan’s dominant 3-0 victory over Hellas Verona on Sunday, bringing his season tally to 10 goals and two assists in just 15 appearances across all competitions.
The win cements Milan’s position in second place in Serie A, just one point behind league leaders Inter Milan. Napoli also won, 2-0, at Cremonese.
Pulisic’s goal came in first-half added time, volleying in a corner by Luka Modric that was headed on by Adrien Rabiot. Christopher Nkunku then added two more goals in the second half, one from a penalty and the other from a rebound.
“Christian is playing with confidence and determination,” said Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri. “He is a key player for us, and his form is fantastic to see.”
Pulisic’s current pace surpasses his previous best season of 17 goals and 12 assists in 50 matches. Since joining Milan for the 2023-24 season, he has contributed to 50 goals (31 goals, 19 assists), second only to Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez in Serie A.
Meanwhile, in other Serie A action, Rasmus Højlund scored twice in Napoli’s 2-0 win, exceeding his goal tally from his time at Manchester United last season. Napoli also won the Italian Super Cup, beating Bologna in Saudi Arabia.
The United States will be relying on Pulisic to maintain his exceptional form as they prepare to host the World Cup from June 11 to July 19, co-hosted by Canada and Mexico. His continued success in Serie A is a promising sign for the national team’s aspirations on home soil.
