Consumers Energy Aims for Saturday Sunrise Restoration After Ice Storm, Braces for High Winds
MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) – Consumers Energy crews are working around the clock to restore power to all Michigan customers impacted by Friday’s ice storm by sunrise Saturday, the company announced. Crews are also actively preparing for a potentially damaging wind storm forecast for early next week.
“We appreciate the patience of our friends and neighbors while we clean up from today’s storm,” said Norm Kapala, Consumers Energy Officer in Charge for restoration. “We especially encourage people to be careful on ice-covered roads, and our crews will be taking every precaution to finish our work as quickly and safely as possible.”
Consumers Energy reminds customers they can monitor outage status at its online outage center. Customers can also sign up for outage alerts and estimated restoration times by texting ‘REG’ to 232273 or by visiting the company’s alert page.
Looking ahead, Consumers Energy is preparing for a storm expected on Monday, Dec. 29, that could bring winds up to 50 mph.
“Michigan winters are rarely predictable, and Consumers Energy takes our responsibility seriously to restore power and be ready for the next storm,” Kapala stated.
The company urges customers to keep safety tips in mind during the ongoing restoration efforts and in preparation for the upcoming wind storm.
