Johannesburg, South Africa – A two-story building in the Soweto township, west of Johannesburg, collapsed in the early hours of Sunday, December 28, 2025, resulting in the tragic deaths of three people. Among the deceased was a one-year-old child, authorities confirmed.

Three other individuals were injured in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Emergency personnel successfully rescued the injured from the rubble.

This incident follows a similar tragedy just weeks prior, on December 12, when a multistory building under construction on top of a Hindu temple near Durban collapsed, claiming the lives of five people.

These two collapses have raised concerns regarding building safety standards and regulations within South Africa. Authorities are investigating the causes of both incidents.
