Mon Dec 29 16:20:00 UTC 2025: Two Dead, Anthony Joshua Injured in Nigeria Car Crash
Lagos, Nigeria – British boxing champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a car crash near Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of two foreign nationals. According to Ogun State authorities, the crash occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Local police reported that Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that the SUV Joshua was traveling in crashed into a stationary lorry while attempting to overtake another vehicle at high speed. Images circulating online show a severely damaged Lexus SUV and the dented truck.
The Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed that five adult males were involved, with two fatalities and two others unharmed. They suspect the SUV was exceeding the speed limit. Witnesses reported that the SUV hit a truck transporting soybeans that had broken down on the road, with Joshua remaining inside the vehicle for about 10 minutes before being assisted out.
Joshua, who recently defeated Jake Paul in a boxing match, was reportedly traveling from Lagos to his family home in Sagamu, Ogun State. The Joshua family is well-known in the region, and the boxer often visits Nigeria, proudly displaying his Nigerian heritage.
Jake Paul expressed his condolences on social media, stating, “Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ, and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident.”
An investigation into the accident has been ordered by local police. Joshua’s promoter, Matchroom Boxing, is being contacted for further information.
