Nine Pilibhit Residents Return Home After Being Trapped in Kyrgyzstan Job Scam
Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh – December 28, 2025: Nine residents of Pilibhit have returned to India after being trapped in Kyrgyzstan for three months, victims of a fraudulent job scheme. The men were allegedly lured by a Pilibhit-based recruiting agency that promised lucrative jobs abroad in exchange for Rs 2.5 lakh each.
According to Pilibhit District Magistrate Gyanendra Singh, the remaining three workers are expected to return by December 30th, before their visas expire.
The scam came to light on December 5th after a video surfaced online showing one of the stranded men, Rohit, detailing their plight. The men reported being held hostage, forced to work jobs they hadn’t agreed to, and facing beatings and unpaid wages. They appealed to the Indian government for help.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav has assigned the case investigation to the Circle Officer. Union Minister Jitin Prasada, MP for Pilibhit, has been involved, meeting with victims’ families and contacting the Indian Embassy to facilitate the return of the stranded workers.
Farmer leader Dev Swaroop Patel met the returning workers in Bareilly.
The families of the returned men have expressed relief and are urging authorities to take strict action against the perpetrators and assist them in recovering their lost money. Authorities are urging the public to be vigilant against recruitment fraud.
