Sat Dec 27 22:35:47 UTC 2025: Nigeria Clinches AFCON Knockout Spot After Thrilling Victory Over Tunisia

FES, Morocco – Nigeria secured their place in the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stage after a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Tunisia in Fes on Saturday. The Super Eagles join Egypt as the second team to advance in the competition.

Victor Osimhen led the charge for Nigeria, scoring a crucial goal and assisting another. Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman also found the net, giving Nigeria a seemingly comfortable 3-0 lead. However, Tunisia mounted a late comeback, with goals from Montassar Talbi and Ali Abdi setting up a tense final few minutes.

Despite Tunisia’s late pressure and near-misses in added time, Nigeria held on to claim the win and secure their spot in the next round. Nigeria now sits atop Group C with six points, followed by Tunisia with three, and Tanzania and Uganda with one each.

Earlier in the day, Uganda and Tanzania played to a 1-1 draw, with Uganda missing a late penalty that could have given them a crucial victory.

The final round of Group C matches is scheduled for Tuesday.
