Sat Dec 27 17:41:27 UTC 2025: ## Senegal Draw with DR Congo; Benin Secure Historic Win at AFCON

Tangier, Morocco – A late equalizer from Sadio Mane salvaged a 1-1 draw for Senegal against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in a thrilling Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group D clash on Saturday. The match, played in Tangier, saw Cedric Bakambu put the Leopards ahead in the 61st minute, but Mane quickly responded, securing a valuable point for the defending champions.

The draw keeps Senegal at the top of Group D due to a superior goal difference, ahead of their final group stage match against Benin. The DRC, seeking revenge after a previous defeat in World Cup qualifying, will now focus on securing their own qualification spot.

Senegal dominated possession and created more chances, but the DRC capitalized on a parried shot, with Bakambu converting the rebound. However, Senegal’s response was swift, with 17-year-old substitute Ibrahim Mbaye setting up Mane for the equalizer after a dazzling run.

Meanwhile, in Rabat, Benin celebrated a historic 1-0 victory over Botswana, their first-ever win at the AFCON finals. Yohan Roche’s deflected shot in the 28th minute proved to be the difference, propelling Benin to three points in Group D. Despite Botswana’s efforts, including a free-kick hitting the crossbar, they couldn’t break through Benin’s defense.

The win marks a significant milestone for Benin, who are competing in their sixth AFCON tournament. Botswana, on the other hand, are yet to score a goal in the competition and face a daunting task against the DRC in their final group match.

The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the Round of 16. The results set up a tense final round of group matches, with all teams still in contention for a place in the knockout stages.
