New Delhi: The Indian women’s cricket team continued their dominant performance against Sri Lanka, securing a commanding victory in the fourth T20 international match. With the series already in their grasp, India is now aiming for a clean sweep of the five-match series.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl, marking the first time in the series India didn’t win the toss. India made two changes to their lineup, with Harleen Deol replacing the unwell Jemimah Rodrigues, and Arundhati Reddy coming in for Kranti Gaud.
The Indian innings was a masterclass in aggressive batting. Openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana provided a blistering start, forging a 149-run partnership. Verma fell just short of her century, scoring a scintillating 79 off 46 balls, including 12 fours and a six. Mandhana was equally destructive, smashing 80 off 48 deliveries with 11 boundaries and three sixes.
The onslaught continued with Richa Ghosh, who blazed her way to an unbeaten 40 off just 16 balls, featuring four fours and three towering sixes. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur contributed a quick-fire 16 not out, propelling India to a formidable total of 221/3 in their 20 overs.
During her innings, Smriti Mandhana achieved a significant milestone, becoming only the fourth woman globally and the second Indian batter to reach 10,000 runs in international cricket.
In response, Sri Lanka got off to a fast start, but Arundhati Reddy struck early, dismissing Hasini Perera. Sri Lanka was 60/1 in 6 overs, but face an uphill battle to chase down the imposing target.
With three consecutive wins, India is the favourite to close out the series. Sri Lanka will need to pull off a major turnaround to salvage pride in the remaining two matches.
