Fri Dec 26 21:45:00 UTC 2025: ## News Article: Caste Discrimination Allegations Rock School in Adopted Village, India

Alawalpur, Bihar – December 27, 2025 – A middle school in Alawalpur village, Patna, adopted by Member of Parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad, is facing serious allegations of caste discrimination. Students claim teachers routinely segregate students based on caste during meals and classes, and threaten those who speak out.

According to multiple student accounts obtained by The Hindu, teachers allegedly instruct students not to sit with those from different castes, reinforcing a discriminatory hierarchy. Students also reported instances where those from lower castes were relegated to the back of the classroom.

“Sarita madam always says that don’t we feel ashamed while sitting with the low caste people,” said one student, Jiya Kumari. “If any low caste student sits near the upper caste student, the teacher orders them to stand up and go to another place.”

In addition to segregation, students allege that teachers consistently punish lower-caste students in disputes while exempting upper-caste students. There are further claims of being forced to perform menial tasks like sweeping, carrying heavy grain sacks, and cleaning dishes. They are also raising concerns about the food quality in Mid Day Meal and about the limited availability of teachers.

The allegations are particularly concerning as Alawalpur village is part of the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), a scheme aimed at developing model villages. The village is dominated by upper-caste Rajputs.

Following the spread of these allegations, students claim teachers are now threatening them with denial of transfer certificates, essential for progressing to high school.

Parents have expressed outrage, fearing the long-term impact on their children’s education and demanding immediate action against the accused teachers: Ranjan sir, Sarita mam, Parveen sir, Punam mam and Rina mam.

School principal Ranjan Kumar denies the allegations, stating they are “baseless” and that the school does not engage in caste discrimination.

Alawalpur Panchayat Head Nitan Devi acknowledged awareness of the issue and has urged the principal to uphold the integrity of the education system.

The incident has prompted a wider discussion about the persistence of caste-based discrimination in rural India and the need for stricter enforcement of anti-discrimination laws within educational institutions. Further investigations by education officials are anticipated.
