The intensified efforts, announced today, come after a surge in complaints specifically targeting private bus drivers. Authorities are emphasizing zero tolerance, with instant legal action, including license suspensions, promised for serious offenses.
“We are taking these complaints very seriously,” stated a supervising traffic police officer. “The safety of passengers and all road users is our top priority. We will not hesitate to act decisively against anyone found driving under the influence or using banned substances.”
The operation involves the deployment of SoToxa machines for rapid on-the-spot screening of suspected drivers. Although each test costs approximately ₹1,200, police officials maintain the expense is justified in the pursuit of road safety.
Initial results from the drive have already yielded tangible results. A police officer involved in the special checking squad confirmed that a drunk private bus driver from Naduvannur was apprehended. Furthermore, ten other drivers were caught using tobacco products while on duty just two days prior.
