Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Belarus of complicity in Russian attacks, alleging that Moscow is exploiting Belarusian territory to circumvent Ukrainian defense systems. Zelenskyy stated that Russia is using residential buildings in Belarus to position equipment that guides drones targeting western Ukraine, endangering civilian lives.
These accusations come amid reports that Russia has potentially deployed its new nuclear-capable hypersonic ballistic missiles, known as Oreshnik, to a former airbase in eastern Belarus. Satellite imagery analyzed by U.S. researchers indicates a rapid construction project at the site, aligning with features of a Russian strategic missile base. These missiles have range of 5,500km (3,400 miles).
President Lukashenko of Belarus had previously confirmed the deployment of such weapons, with Belarusian Defence Minister Viktor Khrenin stating it as a response to Western aggression.
Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump to finalise a possible ceasefire deal between Moscow and Kyiv on Sunday.
