Hyderabad, December 27, 2025 – A major crackdown by the Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department’s State Task Force (STF) in Hyderabad on Saturday resulted in the arrest of nine individuals and the seizure of significant quantities of drugs, illicit liquor, and materials used in its production.
According to officials, separate operations were carried out throughout the city. In one instance, 1.4 grams of MDMA were seized during a raid in Beeramguda, leading to the arrest of two individuals, Thota Hanmanthu and Bappanna Pranay Sukumar.
Furthermore, STF teams intercepted buses arriving from Bengaluru, seizing 10 grams of OG Kush, 101 grams of ganja, and five bottles of illegally sourced liquor from Karnataka. Hamid, Arif, and Harish were arrested in connection with this seizure.
The most substantial seizures involved the illegal transportation of jaggery and alum, reportedly destined for the manufacture of illicit liquor. In one case, 2,016 kilograms of jaggery and 100 kilograms of alum were confiscated from a mini-van headed towards Devarakonda. Gattu Venugopal and Venkataiah were arrested. In a separate incident, 600 kilograms of jaggery and 100 kilograms of alum were seized from a rented car traveling from Hyderabad to Achampet, leading to the arrest of Srinu and Shankar.
“All the arrested individuals and seized materials have been handed over to the respective excise stations for further legal action,” stated a spokesperson for the Excise Department. The arrests underscore the department’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and the illegal production of alcohol within the state.
