Congress and DMK in Alliance Talks, Says Senior Leader Chidambaram

Sivagangai, India – December 27, 2025 – A five-member committee formed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is currently engaged in discussions with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) regarding a potential alliance, according to senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram.

Speaking to reporters in Sivagangai on Saturday, Chidambaram refrained from disclosing specific details, stating he would wait until the talks were completed. He acknowledged the ongoing protests by nurses and teachers in the state, attributing them to the pressure exerted during election times and expressed confidence that the government would resolve the issues through negotiations.

Chidambaram addressed concerns regarding the financial burden of the Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme, emphasizing that economic experts worldwide recognize its potential benefits, echoing similar schemes being implemented in other states. He urged critics to focus on the positive outcomes of the initiative.

Regarding internal security, he commended the continuation of efforts to combat Maoists and Naxalites, noting the successes of the UPA government’s specialized forces formed in 2008, whilst also noting the BJP government was continuing this process

In a more controversial statement, Chidambaram implicitly drew a connection between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent participation in Christmas celebrations and reported attacks against Christian children engaging in street performances, insinuating a potential correlation.

The comments were made public earlier this evening.
