GUNTUR, India – December 26, 2025 – A tragic road accident on National Highway-16 near Guntur City claimed the lives of three individuals early Friday morning. The incident occurred within the Nallapadu police station limits in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh.
According to police reports, the accident happened at approximately 5:30 a.m. opposite Kommineni Cold Storage. A car traveling from Tirupati to Suryapet in Telangana was struck from behind by a Private Travels bus.
“The driver reportedly felt drowsy and pulled over to the side of the road to wash his face,” stated Circle Inspector of Police Kandepu Vamsidhar. “As the car stopped, the bus collided with the rear of the vehicle.”
The force of the impact resulted in the immediate deaths of three occupants: Kunchala Venkataiah, 65, his wife Kunchala Suseela, 56, and Navila Mahesh, 28, all residents of Suryapet district.
Fortunately, four other occupants of the car, including two children, escaped with injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Guntur district Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal inspected the accident scene, and police have registered a case.
In a separate incident in Nandyala district of Andhra Pradesh on the same day, four more people were killed, raising the state’s total accident death toll to seven, highlighting the urgent need for road safety improvements.
