SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs delivered a resounding 130-110 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder Tuesday night, showcasing a dominant defensive performance and setting the stage for a highly anticipated Christmas Day rematch in Oklahoma City.
San Antonio’s physicality proved too much for the Thunder, forcing 15 turnovers and converting them into 20 points. Keldon Johnson (25 points), Stephon Castle (24 points), and Harrison Barnes (20 points) led a balanced offensive attack. While Victor Wembanyama scored 12 points off the bench, his 101-game block streak came to an end.
The loss marked several firsts for the Western Conference-leading Thunder, including their first 20-plus point deficit of the season. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City with 33 points, but struggled to get to the free throw line.
“They really played the game on their terms on both ends of the floor,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “They got whatever they wanted offensively, and then, defensively, they had us stagnant.”
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson emphasized the value of competing against the best.
The Spurs head to Oklahoma City riding a seven-game winning streak, their longest since the 2018-19 season. Despite the two recent wins, rookie sensation Wembanyama remains cautious about calling the matchup a rivalry, acknowledging the packed arenas and heightened physicality but emphasizing that true rivalries are built over time. However, the stage is set for a compelling Christmas Day clash.
