Delhi Inaugurates Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park on Former PM’s Birth Centenary
NEW DELHI, December 26, 2025 – Delhi has paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth centenary with the inauguration of the “Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sadbhavana Udyan.” Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena formally named the 11-acre park, developed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), in honor of the late leader on Thursday.
Located along Mahatma Gandhi Marg, parallel to Old Delhi, the park is the second in a series of three being redeveloped as part of a plan to alleviate congestion at Kartavya Path. The broader landscape redevelopment project encompasses a 35-acre green belt stretching 1.7 kilometers along Ring Road.
According to a DDA press release, the park boasts formal lawns, white marble pathways, shaded eating areas, sculptured fountains, and open recreational zones. A striking sculpture of five white horses guided by a sarathi, symbolizing leadership and progress, anchors the space. Four Yakshini sculptures by Padma Vibhushan awardee sculptor Sudarshan Sahoo are also featured.
The park also includes water features, public amenities, and a waterbody surrounding the horse sculpture. Plans are underway to install a statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the site in the near future. The first park in the series, Kranti Udyan, was inaugurated in January of this year.
