Fri Dec 26 01:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Rockets Eye Bulls’ Dosunmu to Solve Point Guard Woes

Houston, TX – The Houston Rockets are reportedly exploring trade options to address their glaring need at point guard, a weakness exacerbated by Fred VanVleet’s recent injury and the team’s lack of depth at the position. According to a report from Sports Illustrated, citing The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie, Chicago Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu has emerged as a potential target.

The Rockets’ point guard situation has been a recurring issue, masked in recent seasons by VanVleet’s heavy workload. With VanVleet sidelined, the team has been experimenting with Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard, but neither has fully solidified the role. Thompson’s athleticism is best utilized when attacking the basket, while Sheppard is the Rockets’ only current option as pick-and-roll guard.

Vecenie argues that Dosunmu, currently enjoying a career year with the Bulls, would be an ideal fit for Houston. The 6’4″ guard is averaging 15.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists, while shooting efficiently from the field (52%), three-point range (47.5%), and the free-throw line (86%). Vecenie describes Dosunmu as “an efficient, smart basketball player” who doesn’t dominate the ball but is capable of scoring, defending, and moving effectively off-ball.

Dosunmu is currently on an expiring contract worth $7.52 million, making him a financially viable target for the Rockets. To make room for Dosunmu’s salary, the Rockets could potentially package veteran center Clint Capela in a trade.

The Rockets are looking to improve their position at point guard before the trade deadline. Whether they can convince the Bulls to part with Dosunmu remains to be seen, but his skills and contract status make him a compelling option for a team in need of immediate help at the position.
