Visakhapatnam Gears Up for Week-Long ‘Shramik Utsav’ Focusing on Workers’ Rights and Culture

Visakhapatnam, December 26, 2025 – The city of Visakhapatnam is preparing to host the “Shramik Utsav,” a vibrant week-long festival organized by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), starting December 27th. District Collector M. N. Harendhira Prasad will inaugurate the event. The festival is being held in conjunction with the 18th All India Conference of CITU.

CITU State General Secretary Ch. Narasinga Rao announced the details of the festival, which will be held on the grounds behind the AU Convention Hall on Beach Road. The Utsav will feature a diverse array of activities, including cultural performances, twelve different types of science exhibitions, literary gatherings, cartoon shows, short film screenings, book and photo exhibitions, and even an exhibition on human anatomy.

Film actor Prakash Raj will be the chief guest at the inauguration, with other prominent figures such as singer Goreti Venkanna, poet Suddala Ashok Teja, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, actors Rohini and Madala Ravi, and directors Bobby, Raja Murugan, and Attada Srujan scheduled to attend on various days.

Cultural performances will showcase folk dances like ‘Gara nruthyam’, Kathakali, and Mohini Attam from various states. Artistes will also present songs and ballets highlighting concerns over the proposed privatization of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP).

The festival will address critical themes like secularism, social justice, gender equality, anti-drug awareness, equal pay for equal work, and the right to food, health, education, and employment.

“We appeal to everyone to participate in large numbers and make this event a success,” said Mr. Narasinga Rao during the press conference. K. Murali and K. Ramaprabha, the Shramik Utsav committee vice president and convener, were also present.

The “Shramik Utsav” promises to be a dynamic celebration of workers’ rights and culture, drawing participation from across various sectors of society in Visakhapatnam.
