CUPERTINO, CA – In a move to keep its product lineup fresh and focus on the latest innovations, Apple has quietly discontinued several devices in 2025. The tech giant routinely phases out older models to make way for new releases, ensuring its offerings remain cutting-edge. This year’s cull includes several iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and even Mac computers, reflecting the rapid pace of technological advancement.
Among the most notable departures are the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, flagship models celebrated for their large displays and powerful A18 Pro chips. However, the arrival of the iPhone 17 series, boasting upgraded features, rendered the older Pro models obsolete. Apple has also discontinued its iPhone Plus line, replacing it with the slimmer, lighter iPhone 17 Air.
The iPad 10, a popular tablet released in 2022, was also phased out following the launch of the iPad 11. While the two models share similar designs, the iPad 11 features a faster A16 chip and supports Apple Intelligence, making it a more compelling option for new buyers.
Apple’s wearable lineup saw several changes as well. The Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch SE 2 were replaced by the Series 11 and SE 3, respectively. More significantly, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 was succeeded by the Apple Watch Ultra 3, which boasts a faster processor, brighter display, 5G support, and improved battery life.
In the computer category, Apple discontinued both the M2 and M3 MacBook Air models following the introduction of the M4 MacBook Air. The company also phased out the M2 Max and M2 Ultra Mac Studio computers.
Even smaller accessories haven’t been spared. Apple discontinued the first-generation Apple Vision Pro and AirPods Pro 2 which are now replaced with the AirPods Pro 3. The new AirPods Pro 3 tout improved noise cancellation, longer listening time, and new Live Translation functionality, making them a clear upgrade. However, some users have reported a rare issue with the AirPods Pro 3 causing bleeding from the ears. While the cause remains unclear, speculation points to a new heart rate monitoring system or redesigned ear tips. Apple has yet to issue an official response to these claims.
These strategic moves demonstrate Apple’s commitment to innovation and ensuring its product offerings remain competitive. By discontinuing older models, Apple makes room for its latest technologies, although some users will be sad to say goodbye to their favorite devices.
