THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, December 24, 2025 – The city of Thiruvananthapuram is awash in color and light as the Department of Tourism launched its annual “Vasantholsavam” and light show at the Kanakakkunnu Palace ground. The 12-day extravaganza, which opened Wednesday evening, promises a visual feast of flowers and dazzling illuminations, enhancing the festive spirit of Christmas and the upcoming New Year celebrations.
“The light show is designed to align with its theme ‘Illuminating Joy, Spreading Harmony,’ highlighting Kerala’s communal harmony and social unity,” stated Minister for Tourism and Public Works P.A. Mohamed Riyas during the inauguration. He also emphasized the department’s commitment to developing all aspects of Kerala’s tourism sector.
Visitors are greeted by a giant illuminated sleigh pulled by reindeer at the palace entrance, setting the stage for a magical experience. Immersive walkways are adorned with oversized, glowing floral structures, creating a whimsical garden atmosphere. A major highlight of the show is a massive, intricately detailed red-and-gold dragon centerpiece. The entire event offers a double delight, illuminating both the streets and heritage structures of the city.
Over 35,000 pots of flowering plants, curated by the Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute (JNTBGRI), Palode, are on display. A dedicated chrysanthemum festival showcases a stunning array of over 8,000 chrysanthemum flowers and plants. Other flower varieties include dahlias, marigolds, petunias, zinnias, daisies, anthuriums, lilies, and tulips. An expo of flower decorations and related competitions are also planned for adults and students.
Visitors can purchase plants and flowers from various nurseries that have set up stalls at the venue. Entry tickets are priced at ₹50 for adults and ₹30 for children.
