Chennai’s “Unavu Thiruvizha” Extended Due to Popular Demand

Chennai, December 25, 2025 – The Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women has announced the extension of the “Unavu Thiruvizha,” a popular food festival showcasing the diverse cuisine of Tamil Nadu, until December 28th. The second edition of the festival, held at Besant Nagar beach in Chennai, was originally scheduled to conclude on December 24th.

Organizers cited overwhelming public response and the upcoming holidays as reasons for the extension. The festival, running daily from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., features a wide array of dishes prepared by women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the state. These women have received training in food quality, hygienic preparation, and sales to ensure a successful festival experience.

According to a press release, attendees can sample 235 different food varieties, including regional specialties like karuvadu soup, Coimbatore kongu mutton biryani, Cuddalore fish curry, Dindigul chicken biryani, and Dharmapuri ragi adhirasam. The festival aims to highlight the unique culinary traditions of each district in Tamil Nadu.

Beyond the food, the Unavu Thiruvizha also features evening performances, providing entertainment for attendees. With the extended dates, Chennai residents and visitors have even more opportunity to enjoy the flavors of Tamil Nadu and support local women entrepreneurs.
