Wed Dec 24 18:10:00 UTC 2025: Texas A&M’s Strong Season Ends on Sour Note, Leaving Analyst Finebaum Disappointed
COLLEGE STATION, TX – The Texas A&M Aggies’ impressive 2025 football season, which saw them surge to an 11-0 start and a No. 3 national ranking, concluded with a disappointing two-game losing streak, leaving a lingering sense of “what could have been,” according to ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum.
Despite making their inaugural College Football Playoff appearance, the Aggies were eliminated in the first round by the Miami Hurricanes after a lackluster offensive performance. This followed a painful loss to their arch-rivals, the Texas Longhorns, which shattered their hopes of an undefeated regular season.
“On paper, it was a really good year, and I think [Coach Mike Elko has] done a phenomenal job lifting that program up,” Finebaum said on McElroy and Cubelic. “But the way it ended reminded people a lot of just the fact that Texas A&M can’t seem to get out of its own shadow sometimes, and it couldn’t have gone any worse… A&M is going to walk out of the season feeling like they left a lot on the table.”
While the Aggies achieved their first 11-win season since 2012 and reached the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history, the ending casts a shadow on their accomplishments.
“You can’t say with 11 wins you underperformed when it’s one of your best seasons ever, but it doesn’t feel very good,” Finebaum said. “I came away feeling terrible about A&M in terms of the way this season went, even though I know better and I should be thinking more positively of it.”
The losses exposed vulnerabilities and missed opportunities, fueling a sense of unfulfilled potential. As the Aggies look ahead to the 2026 season, they’ll aim to overcome the disappointment and build upon the foundation established under Coach Elko.
