West Bank – An eight-month-old Palestinian baby was moderately injured in an attack on a family home in the occupied West Bank town of Sair, north of Hebron, on Wednesday, prompting the arrest of five Israeli settlers. The attack, allegedly carried out by a group of armed settlers throwing stones, left the infant with injuries to the face and head, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Israeli police confirmed the arrests, stating they received reports of “stones being thrown by Israeli civilians toward a Palestinian home.”

The incident comes amidst a surge in tensions across the occupied West Bank, with multiple reports of violence involving both settlers and Israeli forces. In the town of Beit Furik, east of Nablus, a 17-year-old Palestinian boy was shot and dozens suffered tear gas inhalation during an Israeli army raid. Wafa reported that Israeli forces conducted a “widespread incursion into the town, firing live bullets and tear gas canisters across its neighborhoods.”

Further south in Masafer Yatta, Israeli forces detained three Palestinians following attacks by settlers. Residents reported that their homes and tents were raided, searched, and vandalized before one resident was taken into custody.

Another Palestinian man sustained minor injuries in a settler attack in the town of Deir Jarir, east of Ramallah, after armed settlers reportedly targeted homes near the village entrance.

These incidents highlight the escalating tensions and violence plaguing the occupied West Bank. International law deems Israeli settlements, including those in occupied East Jerusalem, illegal. Approximately 700,000 settlers reside in these communities, according to the Israeli advocacy group Peace Now. The ongoing settlement activity and associated violence continue to fuel the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
