Houstonians, Plan Ahead: Holiday Store Closures Announced for Christmas 2024

HOUSTON – As Christmas 2024 approaches, Houston residents planning last-minute shopping trips should take note: many major retailers and grocery stores will be closed or operating on limited hours on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

KHOU 11 reports that while most large stores will shutter their doors on Christmas Day, options for essential items will be limited.

H-E-B will close early on Christmas Eve, operating from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. with pharmacy and service limitations. All H-E-B stores, pharmacies, Curbside, and Home Delivery will be closed on Christmas Day.

Kroger, including its affiliated brands like Baker’s, City Market, and Fred Meyer, will close all stores and fuel centers at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, with most pharmacies closing at 4 p.m. All Kroger locations will be closed on Christmas Day.

Major retailers like Walmart and Target are also closing their doors on Christmas Day. Walmart stores will generally close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, while Target stores will operate until 8 p.m. on December 24th.

Costco and Aldi will also be closed on Christmas Day. Aldi stores will be open with limited hours (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) on Christmas Eve.

Food Lion stores will remain open until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve but will be closed Christmas Day.

For those hoping to purchase alcoholic beverages, liquor stores across Texas will be closed on Christmas Day, adhering to state regulations.
