Vision IAS Fined ₹11 Lakh for Misleading UPSC Exam Ads: Consumer Watchdog Cracks Down

New Delhi, December 25, 2025 – Vision IAS, a prominent coaching institute for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination, has been slapped with a ₹11 lakh fine by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) for publishing misleading advertisements. This marks the first instance of a penalty for a repeat offense under consumer protection laws, signaling a tougher stance on deceptive marketing practices in the education sector.

The CCPA found that Vision IAS, officially AjayVision Education Pvt Ltd, intentionally obscured crucial details about the actual courses enrolled in by successful UPSC candidates featured in its advertisements. The institute created the false impression that top performers had all completed its expensive foundation courses, despite many having only utilized test series, mock interviews, or other limited services.

CCPA Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare stated that the institute continued to make similar misleading claims even after receiving regulatory cautions. Investigations revealed that out of the 119+ candidates Vision IAS claimed credit for in 2022 and 2023, only three had participated in the full foundation courses.

The CCPA highlighted the misleading nature of showcasing toppers alongside claims like “7 in Top 10 & 79 in Top 100” without properly disclosing the extent of their engagement with Vision IAS’s programs. The authority noted the particular harm caused by online advertisements, which have a lasting global reach and influence student choices.

This penalty reflects a broader effort to combat misleading advertising in the coaching industry. The CCPA has issued 57 notices and fined 28 institutes a total of ₹1.09 crore for similar offenses. The Authority is emphasizing the need for transparency and truthful information in advertising to allow students and parents to make informed decisions.
