Tue Dec 23 19:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Diamondbacks Eye Left-Handed Bat to Bolster Offense, Ryan O’Hearn Emerges as Potential Target
PHOENIX, AZ – While speculation swirls around potential trades for star players like Ketel Marte and Alex Bregman, the Arizona Diamondbacks are quietly focused on addressing their offensive needs for the 2025 season. General Manager Mike Hazen hinted at a potential shift in strategy, suggesting the team is open to adding a left-handed bat to upgrade their lineup.
Traditionally, the D-backs were thought to be pursuing a right-handed hitter to balance out a platoon with Pavin Smith at first base. However, considering the projected performance of Smith and Adrian Del Castillo (slated for DH duties), coupled with the high percentage of at-bats against right-handed pitchers, the team may now be leaning towards a left-handed power hitter.
“I wouldn’t say I’ve committed to anything,” Hazen stated when questioned about the team’s approach. “We’re in the market for offense, we would be open-minded to however it would come.”
One name that has emerged as a potential fit is Ryan O’Hearn, a 32-year-old left-handed hitter coming off a career year in 2025. O’Hearn boasts impressive offensive numbers, with a projected .761 OPS for 2025, a significant upgrade over current projected production at first base and DH. He also offers defensive versatility, playing both first base and corner outfield positions.
O’Hearn is projected to command a contract of around $12 million per year. If acquired, O’Hearn could provide a needed boost to the Diamondbacks’ offense from the left side of the plate.
