Chhattisgarh Electoral Roll Revision Excludes Nearly 13% of Voters
Raipur, December 24, 2025 (IST) – Over 2.7 million voters in Chhattisgarh have been excluded from the draft electoral roll published by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025, as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR). This represents approximately 12.88% of the state’s total electorate.
According to Chhattisgarh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Yashwant Kumar, over 18.4 million electors submitted their enumeration forms out of a total of over 21.2 million eligible voters as of October 27th, 2025. This reflects high participation in the first phase of the SIR.
The ECI press release attributed the exclusion of the remaining voters to multiple registrations (179,043), voter migration (1,913,540), and reported deaths (642,234). However, the ECI assured that legitimate voters can still be added back during the Claims and Objections phase, which runs from December 23rd, 2025, to January 22nd, 2026.
Mr. Kumar credited the successful completion of the first phase to the coordinated efforts of district electoral officers, electoral registration officers, assistant electoral registration officers, additional assistant electoral registration officers, and booth-level officers deployed across over 24,000 polling booths, supported by over 30,000 volunteers. He also acknowledged the active participation of field representatives and booth-level agents from recognized political parties.
The ECI initiated the SIR in 12 states and union territories on November 4th. The exercise has already been completed in Bihar. The current revision in Chhattisgarh aims to ensure an accurate and up-to-date electoral roll.
