Maharashtra Waqf Board Granted Extension to Upload Property Data Due to Technical Issues
Jalna, December 24, 2025: The Maharashtra State Waqf Tribunal has granted the Maharashtra State Board of Waqf a six-month extension to upload Waqf property data onto the central UMEED portal. The decision, delivered on Tuesday, comes after the original deadline of December 5th passed with significant data still outstanding due to ongoing technical issues with the portal.
The UMEED (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development) portal is a central government initiative to digitally manage Waqf properties, which are permanent endowments of assets designated for religious, charitable, or pious purposes by Muslims.
The Waqf Board reported that while details of all 36,000 registered Waqf institutions in Maharashtra were submitted, only 50,000 of the approximately 75,000 Waqf properties could be successfully uploaded due to unresolved technical issues despite repeated communication with the portal’s support team.
The Tribunal, led by District Judge and Chairman Adil Khan, stipulated that the six-month extension will only take effect once the UMEED portal is fully functional and operating 24/7 without technical glitches. They have ordered central officials to rectify all defects and shortcomings of the portal within 10 days, ensuring continuous and uninterrupted operation before the extension begins.
Furthermore, the Tribunal has restrained authorities from taking adverse action against trustees of Waqf institutions during the extension period and has indicated that further time will be granted if the portal remains non-functional or defective beyond the initial 10-day period.
The Federation of Maharashtra Muslims has welcomed the verdict, urging trustees across the state to utilize the extended period to complete the data upload once the portal is fully operational. This is to avoid any further delays or punitive action.
