Los Angeles, CA – As a powerful storm sweeps through Southern California, Los Angeles County officials have released an interactive map of evacuation warnings, urging residents near wildfire burn scars to prepare for potential flash flooding and debris flows. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 4 p.m. Tuesday through 10 p.m. Thursday for much of the region.
Both Los Angeles City and County have issued evacuation warnings and orders for vulnerable areas. The City of Los Angeles has evacuation warnings in place through 11 p.m. Thursday for residents of Pacific Palisades and Mandeville Canyon, near the Palisades Fire, and south of Runyon Canyon, close to the Sunset Fire area.
LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell stated that 126 homes within the city are under mandatory evacuation orders. Officers are conducting door-to-door notifications, and an evacuation center is open at the Stoner Recreation Center, 1835 Stoner Ave., in West Los Angeles.
Los Angeles County officials have issued evacuation warnings for residents near the Palisades, Eaton, Agua Dulce, Lidia, Franklin, Bridge, Canyon, Owen, Hurst, and Kenneth fires. Sheriff’s deputies are also conducting door-to-door notifications in high-risk areas.
Sheriff Robert Luna confirmed that 124 homes in the sheriff’s unincorporated coverage area are under evacuation orders. County Public Works Director Mark Pestrella added that approximately 260 additional homes in various incorporated cities, including Los Angeles, are also under mandatory evacuation orders, and local police departments will be notifying those residents.
Sheriff Luna strongly urged residents to heed the warnings and evacuation orders. “Start preparing now,” he emphasized. “Identify important items such as medications, important documents and other essential items in case you must leave quickly.” He cautioned that debris flows could make roads impassable once the rain begins, making evacuation difficult. “Do not wait until conditions become dangerous to act,” he stressed.
Luna also urged residents to check on elderly or disabled relatives living in the warning areas and ensure they have a plan for evacuation.
