Belagavi, December 24, 2025: A Belagavi court has convicted Nagaraj Dhanapal Camanna, a soldier, of sexual assault against a minor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The VIII Additional District and Sessions Court sentenced Camanna to 10 years in prison and imposed a fine of ₹10,000.

The case stemmed from incidents that began in April 2022, where Camanna, who had known the victim for several years, repeatedly sexually assaulted her in a village in the Belagavi district under the false promise of marriage. He also threatened the girl and her relatives if she revealed the abuse.

In addition to the POCSO Act conviction, the court sentenced Camanna to three years in prison with a ₹5,000 fine under Section 420 of the IPC (cheating) and six months in prison with a ₹5,000 fine under Section 506 of the IPC (criminal intimidation).

Judge Shivaputra Dindalakoppa, who presided over the case, stated that the charges against the accused were proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The court has also ordered compensation to be paid to the victim.
