Wed Dec 24 04:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Rockets Blast Past Nuggets, Snapping Win Streak in Denver
DENVER – The Houston Rockets, fueled by a dominant performance from beyond the arc and a scorching third-quarter run from Reed Sheppard, defeated the Denver Nuggets 115-101 on Saturday night, avenging an earlier loss and ending Denver’s six-game winning streak.
Kevin Durant led the charge for Houston with 31 points, but rookie sensation Reed Sheppard stole the show with 28 points, including a personal 11-0 run to close the third quarter and blow the game open. Sheppard shot a blistering 6-9 from three-point range, punctuated by a late-game steal and slam dunk that sealed the victory. Jabari Smith Jr. added 22 points, connecting on 5 of 11 attempts from deep.
Houston’s sharp-shooting proved to be the difference, as they connected on an impressive 19 of 35 three-point attempts (54%), while the Nuggets struggled, hitting just 8 of 29 (27%).
Nikola Jokic led Denver with 25 points, and Jamal Murray added 16, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Rockets’ offensive barrage. Frustration boiled over for Nuggets coach Dave Adelman, who was ejected with 8:40 remaining after arguing a foul call on Jokic.
The turning point came late in the third quarter. With the Nuggets having pulled within 71-66, Sheppard took over, hitting consecutive three-pointers, sinking two free throws, and then burying another three to give the Rockets a commanding 82-66 lead heading into the final frame.
Denver was hampered by the absence of key defender Peyton Watson, who was sidelined with a right trunk bruise, leaving them vulnerable against Durant.
The victory comes three days after Rockets coach Ime Udoka was fined $25,000 for criticizing the officiating in Monday’s overtime loss to the Nuggets. This time around, Udoka had little to complain about as his team executed their game plan to perfection.
The Rockets built a 53-45 halftime lead thanks to a strong performance from Josh Okogie, who sparked an 11-0 run in the second quarter with three three-pointers.
Looking Ahead:
- Rockets: Visit the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night.
- Nuggets: Host the Utah Jazz on Monday night.
