‘Stargate SG-1’ Set to Reopen the Gate on Netflix in 2026
Los Angeles, CA – Fans of classic science fiction rejoice! Stargate SG-1, the beloved series that expanded the universe established by the 1994 film, is returning to Netflix. The streaming giant will offer all ten seasons and 214 episodes of the landmark show to subscribers in the U.S., U.K., and Latin America starting February 15, 2026.
Based on the Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin film, SG-1 follows a military team as they use the Stargate to travel to alien worlds, forging alliances and battling enemies across the galaxy. Starring Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, and Christopher Judge, the series ran from 1997 to 2007, earning critical acclaim and solidifying its place as a cornerstone of the sci-fi genre.
This revival comes through a licensing agreement with Amazon’s MGM, though the series was briefly available on Netflix before being removed in December 2022.
The return of SG-1 is well-timed, coinciding with Amazon MGM Studios’ announcement of a new original Stargate series currently in development. Details are scarce, but the project promises to be a fresh chapter in the enduring franchise. Amazon has also struck a deal to license several of its titles to Netflix, including the James Bond films.
While the Netflix deal focuses solely on Stargate SG-1 and doesn’t include any spinoff series, the availability of the original show provides a perfect entry point for newcomers and a nostalgic revisit for longtime fans. With its blend of thrilling action, compelling characters, and thought-provoking themes, Stargate SG-1 is poised to captivate a new generation of viewers and remind existing fans why it remains one of the best sci-fi shows ever made.
