Vijay Hazare Trophy Matches in Bengaluru Shifted Due to Safety Concerns at Chinnaswamy Stadium

Bangalore, India – In a last-minute decision, all Vijay Hazare Trophy matches scheduled to be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru have been relocated to the BCCI Centre of Excellence. The Karnataka government issued the directive citing ongoing security concerns at the stadium, which stem from a recent safety review prompted by a tragic stampede that occurred during RCB title celebrations earlier this year.

The opening fixture between Delhi and Andhra, featuring prominent players Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, will now take place at the BCCI CoE today.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) received notification of the change from the state home ministry on Tuesday morning. The decision follows the release of the Justice John Michael D’Cunha report, which deemed the Chinnaswamy Stadium unsafe for large gatherings. A government committee inspection on Monday confirmed these concerns, preventing the venue from resuming match hosting.

“KSCA values the Government’s constructive and consultative approach,” stated the KSCA in a press release, adding they are committed to implementing all recommended safety and security measures.

All Vijay Hazare Trophy matches in Bengaluru will be played behind closed doors. The Bengaluru police have guaranteed a heavy security presence around the Aerospace Park area, where the BCCI CoE is located.
