Two Arrested in Kollam Drug Bust, One Suspect Linked to Murder

Kollam, India – December 24, 2025 – The Kollam Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotic Special Squad has apprehended two men, Ratheesh (39) and Amitabh Chandran (39), in Panmana Edappallikotta for possession and smuggling of 11.649 grams of MDMA. The arrests were made during a targeted operation as part of the Christmas-New Year Special Drive, acting on intelligence from the Excise Intelligence Bureau.

Inspector Dileep C.P. led the operation, resulting in the seizure of the illicit substance and the immediate arrest of the two suspects. Both men have been identified as having prior criminal records.

Amitabh Chandran, hailing from Alappuzha, is reportedly an accused in a 2023 murder case in Kayamkulam, stemming from the fatal stabbing of a young man. A 29cm dagger was also recovered from his possession during the arrest. Ratheesh, from Meenad, Kollam, is allegedly involved in multiple attempted murder cases.

Preliminary investigations suggest the duo procured the synthetic drugs from a Nigerian national in Bengaluru with the intent to distribute them in Kerala during the upcoming festive season.

“This arrest is a significant step in our ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region,” stated Inspector Dileep C.P. “We are committed to dismantling these networks and ensuring the safety of our community during the holidays.”

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and both individuals are in custody as the investigation continues to uncover further details about the regional drug trafficking network.

The operation involved a team of excise officials, including AEI Prem Nazir, PO Prasad Kumar, and CEOs Ajith, Aneesh, Sooraj, Jojo Julian Cruz, Abhiram, WCEO Varsha, and CEO Subhash.
