KJ Apa to Star as Jimmy Stewart in Upcoming Biopic, “Jimmy”
HOLLYWOOD, CA – October 26, 2023 – Burns & Co. Entertainment has released the first trailer for “Jimmy,” a highly anticipated biopic chronicling the life of beloved actor and war hero, Jimmy Stewart. KJ Apa (“Riverdale”) stars as Stewart, capturing his journey from Hollywood stardom to his service as a combat pilot during World War II and his triumphant return to the silver screen.
The film will delve into Stewart’s pivotal decision to enlist after winning an Oscar for “The Philadelphia Story.” Viewers will witness his transformation into a decorated commander in the U.S. Army Air Corps, flying 20 missions over Europe, and his eventual return, grappling with the emotional scars of war. The narrative will culminate with his iconic role as George Bailey in the classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
The ensemble cast includes Kara Killmer, Neal McDonough, Max Casella, Jason Alexander, Christopher McDonald, Sarah Drew, Rob Riggle, Julian Works and Jen Lilley. A cameo by Karolyn Grimes, known for her role as Zuzu Bailey in “It’s a Wonderful Life,” adds a sentimental touch.
“Jimmy” is directed by Aaron Burns from a script by Justin Strawhand, and is slated for release on November 6, 2026. Stewart’s daughter, Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, serves as executive producer.
“Jimmy Stewart was an American Hero,” says Apa. “His story is one of strength and purpose, love and honor, fame and war. His story is one that begs us to think of the greater good and to be willing to fight for it.”
Stewart-Harcourt added, “I was privileged enough to visit the set in Ireland this last September, and there, I felt a magic. I know this will be conveyed in the film, and I can’t wait to see it.”
