Bengaluru Man Murders Wife Week After Divorce Notice, Surrenders to Police

Bengaluru, India – A 40-year-old man, identified as Balamurugan, has been arrested after allegedly murdering his wife, Bhuvaneshwari, 39, in Bengaluru on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred approximately a week after Bhuvaneshwari served Balamurugan with divorce papers.

Police report that Balamurugan, a software engineer who has been unemployed for four years, allegedly ambushed Bhuvaneshwari, an assistant manager at Union Bank of India, as she returned home from work in Rajajinagar. He is accused of firing four shots at her around 6:30 PM, one of which proved fatal. Bhuvaneshwari was rushed to Shanbhog Hospital but succumbed to her injuries en route.

The couple, originally from Salem district in Tamil Nadu, had been married since 2011 and have two children. They moved to Bengaluru in 2018. Marital disputes led to their separation over a year ago, with Bhuvaneshwari residing with the children. According to police sources, Balamurugan suspected his wife of infidelity, leading to frequent arguments.

“The accused traced his wife’s movements and waited for her to return from work,” a police spokesperson stated. “He then allegedly shot her multiple times.”

Balamurugan surrendered himself to police immediately after the shooting. An investigation is underway, with authorities focusing on determining the source of the firearm. The divorce case was pending in court at the time of the murder.
