Couple and Accomplices Arrested for Theft in Vellore
Vellore, December 23, 2025 – Vellore police have arrested a couple and two accomplices for allegedly stealing gold jewellery, silver objects, and cash totaling ₹2.5 lakh from the residence of a landowner in Virinchipuram village.
The suspects have been identified as Ashok Kumar, 42, his wife Lakshmi, 38, Anjali, 34, and her husband Vimal, 37, all residents of Vellore.
According to police reports, the victim, Illayarani, 37, discovered the break-in at her home on November 20th after returning from a family function. The ground floor of her residence was rented to Ashok Kumar and Lakshmi several months prior.
Initial investigations revealed that the couple frequently visited Illayarani’s house, discovering she lived alone. Suspicion quickly fell on them, and during interrogation, they confessed to the crime, implicating Anjali and Vimal.
“Investigations revealed that the couple frequently visited the victim’s house” said Vellore SP A. Mayilvaganan, who formed special teams to nab the suspects. “The couple found that the victim was staying alone. Subsequently, police interrogated the couple, who told police that along with their friends, they did the burglary.”
Police have recovered the stolen gold jewellery and cash. All four suspects have been remanded to Central Prison in Vellore as investigations continue.
