Tue Dec 23 05:38:41 UTC 2025: ## Aleppo Ceasefire Declared After Clashes Mar Turkish FM’s Syria Visit

Aleppo, Syria – A ceasefire has been declared in the northern city of Aleppo between Syrian government forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) after deadly clashes erupted amidst a visit from Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The fighting, which left at least two civilians dead, prompted a stop-targeting order from the Syrian army’s general command, according to state news agency SANA.

The SDF later confirmed that they had also issued instructions to their forces to cease responding to attacks by Syrian government forces following de-escalation talks.

The clashes occurred during a sensitive visit from Fidan, whose country considers the SDF a terrorist organization. Just prior to the outbreak of violence, Fidan publicly stated that the SDF appeared to be failing to meet a year-end deadline to integrate into the Syrian state’s armed forces.

The agreement to halt hostilities brings a temporary reprieve to Aleppo. Further details are expected to follow.
