Tue Dec 23 10:08:43 UTC 2025: Sudan PM Unveils Peace Plan at UN, Calls for RSF Disarmament

New York, NY – Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris presented a peace plan to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Monday, aiming to end the nearly three-year war with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that has devastated the country. The proposal calls for a UN, African Union and Arab League-monitored ceasefire, RSF withdrawal from occupied territories, and the disarmament of RSF fighters into designated camps.

Idris appealed to the UNSC to back the initiative, stating that the plan is about breaking the cycle of violence and that RSF fighters not implicated in war crimes would be reintegrated into society. He also pledged free elections following a transition period.

However, the RSF has yet to comment and support is unlikely. The plan comes amidst continued fighting, with the Sudanese army claiming to have recaptured a town in North Kordofan State.

Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey Bartos advocated for a humanitarian truce proposed by the “Quad” (US, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and UAE) as a more immediate solution to the humanitarian crisis. This alternative plan aims to deliver aid to civilians in desperate need. The UAE also called for multilateral efforts rather than unilateral ones.

The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, the displacement of 14 million people, and a severe humanitarian crisis.
