Sons Arrested in Murder-for-Insurance Plot Near Tiruttani
CHENNAI, INDIA – December 23, 2025 – A chilling murder-for-insurance scheme has been uncovered near Tiruttani, India, following the death of a government school lab assistant initially reported as a snake bite incident. Police have arrested the victim’s two sons, Mohanraj and Hariharan, along with four accomplices, for orchestrating the murder of their father, E.P. Ganesan, 56, to collect on multiple insurance policies.
The investigation, led by Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Shukla, was triggered by the sons’ remarkably quick attempt to file an insurance claim, just 15 minutes after their father was pronounced dead on October 22. “This raised suspicion within the insurance company, following which our investigation revealed that it was a case of murder for insurance money,” stated Mr. Shukla.
Police discovered that the suspects procured a krait snake and deliberately induced it to bite Ganesan on the neck. The snake was then killed to make the incident appear accidental. The elaborate scheme was motivated by financial gain, with Ganesan holding policies with more than three insurance companies. Authorities noted that the family’s liabilities and insurance coverage were disproportionate to their known income, raising further red flags.
“The investigation brought to light a well-orchestrated criminal conspiracy driven by financial motives, resulting in the murder of the deceased,” Mr. Shukla explained.
All six individuals involved are now in police custody and will be interrogated to determine the full extent of the crime.
