Medaram Shrine Renovation Nears Completion Ahead of 2026 Maha Jatara
MULUGU, December 23, 2025 – Major renovations at the Medaram Sammakka-Sarakka tribal shrine are nearing completion, with approximately 80% of development works finished, according to Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. The Minister, along with Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka), Mahabubabad MP P. Balaram Naik, and Chief Minister’s Adviser Vem Narender Reddy, inspected the ongoing works on Tuesday.
Mr. Reddy stated that the remaining construction is expected to be finalized by the first week of January 2026, with a grand inauguration planned in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and other dignitaries prior to the Maha Jatara, the biennial tribal festival, scheduled for January 28-31, 2026.
Speaking at a press conference following a review meeting, Mr. Reddy emphasized that the works are designed to meet the needs of devotees for at least the next two centuries. He highlighted the complete makeover of the gaddelu (platforms) housing the tribal deities, now featuring stone pillars and permanent structures, while strictly adhering to Adivasi worship customs. The shrine compound has been expanded by two-and-a-half times to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims. Approach roads are also being widened, from 50-60 feet to 100-120 feet, with medians added to improve accessibility.
Minister Seethakka addressed the press, explaining that sculptures on the new stone blocks and pillars depict Adivasi culture, customs, traditions, and deity worship practices passed down through generations. She also clarified the use of the Swastika symbol, stating its historical significance to Adivasi communities, with a different orientation from the Hindu religious symbol. She further announced that the installation of Padigiddaraju and Govindraju would be held on Wednesday, December 24th, in accordance with Koya Adivasi rituals.
District Collector T.S. Divakara and Superintendent of Police Sudhir R. Kekan were also present during the inspection and review. The ministers emphasized Medaram’s growing importance as a major pilgrimage center in the State and the country, and the commitment to providing improved facilities for the anticipated influx of devotees.
