Son Charged with Murder in Deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner

Los Angeles, CA – December 23, 2024 – The Los Angeles community is reeling from the tragic deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner, who were found dead in their home on Sunday, December 14th. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with two counts of murder.

According to reports, Nick Reiner was receiving treatment for schizophrenia prior to the incident. He appeared in court on December 17th, where his lawyer declined to enter a plea. His arraignment is scheduled to continue on January 7th.

Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 70, were married in 1989 after meeting during the filming of “When Harry Met Sally…” They shared three children: Jake, 34, Nick, and Romy, 27. Rob also has a daughter, Tracy, from his previous marriage to Penny Marshall.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the family said in an initial statement released on December 14th. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

In a subsequent statement released on December 22nd, Jake and Romy Reiner expressed their grief and gratitude for the outpouring of support. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

The siblings also requested privacy and asked that their parents be remembered for their lives and love. “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Jake and Romy have announced that they will share information regarding a memorial service for their parents at a later date. An informal gathering of friends was held last week at Albert Brooks’ home.

The Reiner family asks for continued respect and privacy during this incredibly challenging time.
