Raleigh Woman’s “Pie-in-the-Sky” Dream Comes True with $200,000 Powerball Win
RALEIGH, N.C. – A Raleigh woman is celebrating a surprising windfall after winning a $200,000 Powerball prize. Ann Gasperini, who purchased a $3 Powerball ticket online for Wednesday’s drawing, initially matched four white balls and the Powerball, securing a $50,000 prize. Her decision to add the Power Play option quadrupled her winnings when the 4X multiplier was drawn.
“I was like, ‘Holy cow!'” Gasperini exclaimed, recalling her shock at the unexpected victory. “It was so out of the blue.”
Gasperini claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Friday, taking home $143,501 after federal and state tax withholdings. She plans to use the money to help her daughter, a teacher pursuing her master’s degree, pay off her student loans. She also intends to share the winnings with her other children and contribute towards her house payments.
Gasperini bought her lucky ticket online at North Carolina lottery’s website.
The Powerball jackpot for Monday’s drawing stands at a staggering $1.6 billion annuity, or $735.3 million in cash. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are approximately 1 in 292 million.
