Delhi to Continue Strict Pollution Control Measures, Invest in Water Body Rejuvenation
New Delhi – December 23, 2025 – The Delhi government announced today that it will continue its stringent “No PUC, No Fuel” policy for vehicles, even after the relaxation of current GRAP-IV restrictions. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa made the announcement during a press conference, emphasizing the government’s commitment to combating air pollution in the capital.
“We will maintain strict enforcement of anti-air pollution measures even after the current restrictions are lifted,” stated Minister Sirsa. “No vehicle without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will be permitted to operate within the city limits.”
The government is also cracking down on irregularities within the PUC certification system. Minister Sirsa revealed that 12 PUC issuing centers have already been suspended and will be blacklisted for engaging in fraudulent practices. “All PUC centers will be rigorously verified, and those found indulging in irregularities will face severe consequences,” he added.
In addition to air quality measures, the Delhi government is prioritizing the restoration of the city’s water bodies. Minister Sirsa announced the allocation of ₹100 crore specifically for the rejuvenation of approximately 1,000 water bodies across Delhi.
To further improve vehicle emissions testing capacity, the government has green-lit the opening of four new vehicle emission testing centers, including facilities for commercial vehicles.
The announcements come as Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data revealed that Delhi’s overall air quality worsened to the ‘severe’ category today. The CPCB defines ‘severe’ air pollution as a condition that “affects healthy people and seriously impacts those with existing diseases.”
