BJP Councillor Renu Chaudhary Faces Backlash Over Hindi Language Demand

New Delhi – December 23, 2025 – Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Councillor Renu Chaudhary is facing criticism after a video surfaced showing her allegedly threatening an African national for not learning Hindi. The video, posted to Chaudhary’s Instagram account, depicts her confronting a football coach at a Municipal Corporation of Delhi park in Mayur Vihar Phase I, demanding he learn Hindi within a month or be removed from the park.

In the video, Chaudhary can be heard saying, “Hindi nahi seekhi. Kyun nahi seekhi? Agar ek mahine mein Hindi nahi seekhi… toh park cheen lo inse (You haven’t learnt Hindi. Why? If you don’t learn Hindi in a month… then take him off the park).” She further added, “Yahan ka paisa kha rahe ho to yahan ki bhasha bhi bolna seekho (If you make your living here, you must learn the local language as well).”

The incident reportedly occurred after residents of the nearby Vigyapan Lok Apartments raised concerns about late-night activities at the park. While residents acknowledged the coach’s weekend football training for children, they declined to comment on Chaudhary’s remarks.

Chaudhary defended her statements, telling The Hindu that she visited the park in response to resident complaints about late-night activity and poor maintenance. She argued that anyone living and working in India for years should make an effort to learn the local language, similar to respecting the language of a country when travelling abroad. The incident has sparked debate on language and cultural integration within India.
