KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, a 13-year NFL veteran, has pledged to play in the final three games of the season, despite the team’s elimination from playoff contention and a season-ending injury to quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes suffered a torn ACL in last week’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
“I signed up to be a Chief, and I love doing what I do,” Kelce stated Friday, emphasizing his commitment to the team and the fans. He aims to give his all in the remaining games against the Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders.
Kelce, currently in the final year of his contract, previously indicated he would decide his future in early March before NFL free agency. He acknowledged the difficulty his brother, Jason Kelce, experienced retiring after the 2023 season.
The tight end leads the Chiefs in several categories, including targets (92), receptions (67), yards (797), and touchdowns (5). Head Coach Andy Reid praised Kelce’s performance this year, highlighting his leadership and improved athleticism.
Kelce is on pace to become the oldest tight end in NFL history to record 1,000 receiving yards in a season, needing just 203 yards in the final three games. However, he emphasizes that his focus is on winning for his teammates and the Chiefs Kingdom.
While the injury to Mahomes is a significant blow, Kelce remains determined to end the season on a positive note. “Chiefs kingdom deserves us to go out there and play our hearts out for them,” he said.
